Summary

The Social Worker will be responsible for the interventions of vulnerable and orphaned children, desperate youth and families strengthening

Description

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Social Worker, the Social Worker will be responsible for the following duties:-

  • Compile requests of needy children cases from Government authorities and communities within the Micro Community scope.
  • Visit areas where the needy cases are reported to assess and present reports to Horizon Admission team for consideration.
  • Present admission lists and case histories to Sub-County children’s officer for court process.
  • Make sure qualified children are admitted in the Micro Community and work closely with the Micro Community Director and Parents.
  • Work closely with the parents and Micro Community Director in providing all basic needs as required by the government that include, food, shelter, clothing, health care, education and other related services.
  • Act as an internal mediator in case of misunderstanding among the staff and children in the Micro Community Director.
  • Promote and encourage good behavior development among children and staff in the Micro Community Director through counseling and mentoring.
  • Assist the parents in handling conflict and character challenges in the Micro Community Director.
  • Support the entire MC team in making sure the children get the best services.
  • Take the children in TRC through re-unification process and encourage families to embrace it.
  • Prepare children families to have their children back and be supported in their homes.
  • Advise Horizon leadership on the right time to re-unify a child.
  • Support the youths who have left the MC to complete their studies and start their responsible life.
  • Request refers where necessary.
  • Encourage life skills and talents among the children by bringing on board other professionals.

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, community development, or a related disciplines with at least two (2) years’ working experience with local communities, NGOs, and Government Agencies in Kenya.

Or

  • Diploma in Social Work, Community Development or a related disciplines with at least Four (4) years working experience as a Social Worker with local communities, NGOs, and Government Agencies in Kenya.
