Location: Kahawa West

Salary: 750,000 negotiable based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.

The Head of Export will provide strategic leadership and direction for the company's international business portfolio, driving sustainable revenue growth, market expansion, regulatory compliance, and profitability across global markets. The role is accountable for developing and executing the company's export strategy, establishing strategic partnerships, strengthening brand presence internationally, and ensuring world-class export operations and governance.

The ideal candidate must possess extensive hands-on experience in export management, a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks in different markets (including Middle East, EU, Africa, and Asia), and a track record of driving export growth in food processing or agri-business environments

Description

Export Strategy and Business Growth Management

  • Develop and implement the company's export strategy aligned with global market opportunities and regulatory trends.
  • Establish export revenue, profitability, and market share targets.
  • Identify and prioritize high-growth markets across Africa, Middle East, Europe, Asia, and other reions.
  • Develop market entry, diversification, and expansion strategies.
  • Build strategic partnerships with distributors, retailers, and international agents.
  • Lead export business planning and budgeting.

Regulatory & Compliance management

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of country-specific export requirements including health and sanitary regulations, packaging standards, labelling, certifications (e.g., Halal, HACCP, FSSC 22000), and documentation.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies such as KEBS, KEPHIS, DVS, KRA, HCD, and foreign agencies (e.g., SFDA, EU Food Safety Authority) to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee product registrations, export licenses, and certifications required for targeted markets.
  • Establish export governance and compliance frameworks and ensure compliance with all international trade regulations and standards.
  • Monitor geopolitical, regulatory, and supply chain risks affecting exports and develop business continuity plans for export markets.

Commercial and Operational Leadership

  • Drive revenue growth and margin optimization.
  • Develop pricing strategies for international markets.
  • Negotiate major commercial agreements and strategic partnerships
  • Oversee and ensure timely export documentation, customs clearance, and product dispatch with zero compliance errors.
  • Lead resolution of logistics, freight, and border clearance issues, including coordination with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and port authorities.
  • Manage end-to-end export logistics including cold chain integrity for perishable products.

Marketing & Brand Execution

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement market-entry and growth strategies for export markets.
  • Ensure brand positioning, packaging, and product presentation align with cultural, legal, and consumer preferences in each market.
  • Coordinate with distributors and partners to execute in-market brand activations, promotional campaigns, and trade events.
  • Oversee the development of marketing materials tailored for international audiences, ensuring brand consistency.
  • Monitor competitor activities in export markets and provide strategic recommendations for marketing and pricing.
  • Represent the company at international trade fairs, exhibitions, and networking events to enhance brand visibility.
  • Track the performance of marketing initiatives and provide regular reports on return on investment (ROI).
  • Build strong relationships with international clients, distributors, and in-market representatives.
  • Negotiate international contracts and sales agreements in line with company policies and commercial objectives.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in international Trade, agribusiness, Supply Chain, Business Management, or related field. An MBA in any field is an added advantage
  • Certification in Export Management or International Trade Law.  

More Details on Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in export operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing international markets and P&L responsibility.
  • Demonstrated success in scaling export operations in FMCG, food processing, or agribusiness sectors.
