Summary

Our client is a leading food processing company in East Africa, manufacturing over 50 different products under various brand names that have been in use for over 50+ years and have become well known household names in the region.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors the General Manager is responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing the overall operations of the company with particular focus on driving growth in revenue and profitability whilst ensuring efficient operations and delivery of high-quality productions.

Description

Key Responsibilities

Strategy: 20%

  • Develop and implement three-year strategy that demonstrates financial growth for the company and is aligned to the overall growth projections of the group.
  • Develop and implement budgets to support the strategic plan.
  • Develop and implement plan for supply chain and distribution.
  • Provide to the Board and Executive Management timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends of the company.
  • Provide inspirational leadership and direction to the leadership team, and ensure the continued coaching and development for a professional and efficient organization.

Operations: 30%

  • Manage manufacturing facility and ensure that production is timely cost effective and meets customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements.
  • Achieve optimum labour and minimum overhead and raw material costs.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on operating costs within the factory.
  • Ensures compliance of with all quality and manufacturing standards as prescribed by the customer.

Business Growth: 20%

  • Develop and establish partnerships and new markets to drive sales volumes.
  • Builds company image by collaborating with industry stakeholders, government bodies to maintain market leadership.
  • Identify new markets and business opportunities for the brand.
  • Increase market share of products within the market’s products are sold.
  • Serves as a key brand in the market by reinforcing and promoting the brand value and identity.
  • Maintaining high quality in its products and achieving the satisfaction of key customers.

Stakeholder Relations: 10%

  • Engage in customer development which entails having a deep understanding of each customer and exceeding their expectation.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of customer service metrics.
  • Effectively manage multiple external relationships to ensure high quality services, the utmost compliance with industry policies, practices and regulations, and seamless integration with internal processes and teams.
  • Collaborate with Management teams to develop and implement people plans designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the company.
  • Motivate and lead high-performance organization.

Governance: 10%

  • Work with the Board and facilitate its optimum performance on long-range strategic issues.
  • Assessing risks to the company and ensuring they are monitored and minimized

People Management 10%

  • Responsible to conducting performance evaluations on staff as required.
  • Develop team spirit within departments to support each other in achieving sub goals.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all plant personnel are in alignment with client requirements.

Education

  • MBA in Strategic Management is an added advantage.
  • Bachelor’s in any discipline. Degree in Food Technology is an added advantage

  • 10+ years of Senior Management Experience
  • Track record of effectively leading and scaling performance, outcomes, and staff; ability to and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
  • Knowledge in Finance
