Summary

World Wide Fund for Nature Kenya (WWF-Kenya) is a locally registered non-governmental conservation organization; an affiliate of World Wide Fund for Nature International (WWF). Since 1962, WWF has been working in Kenya with the government and a variety of internal and external stakeholders to help create an atmosphere that fosters sustainable natural resource management.

Description

The CKP Manager will steer leadership efforts in the coordination and implementation of conservation programmes in the Coastal region in line with the WWF-Kenya Strategic Plan, with the ultimate aim of delivering high-impact conservation results.  The role will encompass programme development towards enhanced integration, a shift from project to programmatic approaches whilst sustainably balancing traditional efforts with contemporary conservation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of WWF-Kenya conservation strategy and successful implementation of conservation programmes
  • Identify and pursue strategic collaborations and partnerships with governments, civil society organizations, WWF stakeholders and professional bodies in advancing conservation interests in line with WWF-Kenya’s framework and strategy
  • Champion the domestication of relevant national and regional policy instruments at local level in Coastal Kenya region
  • Develop feasible conservation proposals in alignment with the resource mobilization strategy
  • Engage in knowledge management through conservation research, publication, contribution to WWF-Kenya Annual Report, periodic media briefs, newsletters and dissemination of scientific research including representing WWF-Kenya in national, regional and international conservation platforms
  • Promote cross programmes and projects linkages to facilitate shared learning and development of capacity to further impact of conservation efforts
  • Supervise and provide guidance to all programme and field staff in the Coastal Kenya programme

Education
Masters Degree In Consrvation Masters Degree In Resource Management

  • MSc Degree in Conservation, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Marine Science/Forestry/Freshwater/Terrestrial Ecology or related field
  • PhD in the relevant field will be an added advantage
  • Advanced certificate in Management or extensive training in leadership development programmes

More Details on Experience

  • The individual we are looking for will not only have technical expertise and experience in natural resources management but will also have proven leadership skills, and in particular, a track record of programme management and impact growth. You will be a Kenyan citizen with demonstrable passion for conservation; individuals with experience working in the conversation space in the coast region have a definite advantage. 
  • At least seven years of experience at management level in Conservation, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Marine Science/Forestry/Freshwater/Terrestrial Ecology or related field

  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, plan and implement strategic initiatives within the context of conservation, natural resource management, international development, and/or other related fields
  • Program development and program management skills
  • Financial Management, negotiation, and contract management skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels
