Summary
Reporting to the Managing Director, the job holder will oversee, supervise and manage general accounting activities. To analyze business transactions and partnerships, maintain effective internal controls while ensuring statutory compliance in all accounting activities. This role is critical for ensuring the company's financial health, efficiency and compliance.
Description
Includes but not limited to the following;
- Overall management and co-ordination of the day-to-day accounts department and administration activities
- Preparation and monitoring the business’s annual/project budgets and ensure all expenses are within assigned budgets
- Analyze project cost variances against budgets and work with QS and project supervisors to identify cost-saving opportunities and manage financial risks.
- Critically analyse accounting processes and identify areas to enhance process efficiency and discuss with management for approval.
- Ensure compliance with state tax requirements and other regulatory bodies
- Provide exhaustive project accounts and business level reporting for ongoing and completed projects along key account metrics. Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor for timely invoicing of ongoing and completed projects.
- Preparation of monthly payroll and timely payment of all statutory payments
- Prepare and reconcile bank statements and accounts on a monthly basis
- Preparation of monthly financial statements; cash flow, GL, profit & loss, balance sheet, debtors and creditors statements
- Responsible for preparation of annual accounts for audit and making of all statutory returns according to International Financial Reporting standards.
- Monitor inventory movement in the company stores/warehouses and carry out regular stocktaking and report to the management
- Ensure sound financial accounting and control systems are in place to safeguard the company’s assets
- Supervise and work with the accounting team to set and implement the department objectives and strategies
- Ensure timely renewal of Company licenses (business and professional licenses, and all other leases).
- Provide timely cashflow projections to management for decision-making.
Education
- Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, Finance or related fields
- CPA-K
- Member of ICPAK
More Details on Experience
- 4 years’ relevant experience preferably in a Construction Company
- Management experience of at least 2 years
- Working knowledge of SAGE software will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of construction accounting principles and practices
