Introduction

We are currently assisting a small well established Consulting Engineering company that specialises in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Services, Information Technology, feasibility studies, project management and contract administration. Our client works with reputable architectural firms and collaborates with international consultancy organisations that require local inputs.

The successful candidate will based in our client’s Nairobi offices.

THE POSITION HEAD OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

To work in liaison with all Departmental Heads to ensure that all are performing as planned, and that all are aligned to the Corporate Strategy in terms of securing and completing projects to meet Client expectations

QUALIFICATIONS

 Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
 MBA or equivalent
 Registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB, Kenya)
 Corporate member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK)
 Institute of Construction Project Managers of Kenya (ICPMK)

EXPERIENCE

 At least 5 years in a senior management position in the building services industry
 Experience in project management

SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE

 Knowledge of finance, accounting and audit
 Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, CAD and finance packages
 Project management skills
 Director material with corporate governance skills
 Leadership ability
 Ability to promote the Company and lobby for large substantive projects
 Preparation of reports and submissions
 Thorough knowledge of building services including Building Regulations and Labour Laws

 Ensure suitable projects are progressed as per the Corporate Strategy to improve profits

 Attend site meetings / inspections as required to ensure project requirements and quality is maintained and achieved

 Mechanical Engineering fully compliant in terms of statutory and legal requirements (tax, company law, environmental etc)

 To develop and grow staff capabilities for internal promotions and company expansion 

 All contracts for building services are delivered meeting Customer expectations and within quality, budget and time schedules

 Positive PR and marketing of the company as an Engineering Consulting firm

 Authorise the release of all the Board papers prior to the meeting

 PR and entertainment of guests and main potential clients 

 Review Monthly Management Accounts to determine if on target according to the forecast budget

 Present prepared Annual Budget for the Board to approve

 Sufficient and suitable projects are handled as per the Corporate Strategy to improve profits within staff capacity

 Punctual attendance with required information at office, site meetings and inspections, as required

 Mechanical Engineering fully compliant in terms of statutory and legal requirements (tax, company law, environmental etc)

 Internal staff capabilities maximised to minimise external recruitment while enabling company expansion 

 All contracts for building services are delivered meeting Customer expectations and within quality, budget and time schedules

 At least one large (minimum 3 billion Ksh) new projects with at least 30% profitability won every six months
